Justin's Top Ten Star Trek: TNG Episodes Part 3

You may have noticed many fan favorites missing from my top ten list. Relics, Best of Both Worlds, The Inner Light, Yesterday's Enterprise, Sarek. These are all great episodes. For Best of Both Worlds i think i've simply seen it too many times. Before part 2 aired i watched and rewatched part 1. Unless you lived through that summer it's hard to describe. There was so much anticipation for part 2. We didn't know how things were gonna play out. Over the years i've watched both parts during rewatch sessions and marathons, primarily the WPIX 4th of July marathons. Same with Yesterday's Enterprise. Great episode but i've watched it to death.

So those episodes are my honorable mentions. And, in keeping with my Original Series top ten list here are some episodes that i think are absolute stinkers.

3. Masks

I understand the intent of this episode. I also understand that actors like to flex their muscles. Play something different, especially having spent seven years playing the same character. But this episode just doesn't work. It's too bizarre. I always thought an episode exploring all the 'people' inside Data would be cool. He has the journals of the colonists from Omicron Theta in his memory and the experiences of Lal. But that is not what we get with Masks. Nothing about it is believable and even the cast hated the episode.

2. Manhunt

Lwaxana is back and she's horny! That's it. That's the episode. This episode is so embarrassing. Even the Dixon Hill stuff can't save it. I admit i'm not a fan of Lwaxana at all. To me this is her at an unbearable level.

1. Code of Honor

How did this get made? A further question... how did the writer manage to take the same plot and sell it to Stargate SG1? That episode features an Asian society but the results are equally as bad. Just lipstick on a pig. Having Sam Carter in the same position as Tasha is equally embarrassing.

0. Shades of Grey. The clip episode. Not only is it a clip episode but it's the second season finale. This is the result of budget overspending earlier in the season. Still, a simple bottle episode would have been better.

An aside. People often cite Genesis as a terrible episode. I think it's fun. The Enterprise turning into a weirdo space temple is more mind boggling than the crew turning into monsters. That's how i rationalize it. Though some of it makes little sense to me. Spot turns into an iguana? What? WHAT?
